The last few days I have really been studying Psalm 37- a beautiful one that has quickly become one of my favorite passages of Scripture. Verses 23-26 was what I really focused on tonight. "The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand. I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. He is ever lending generously, and his children became a blessing."
I love verse 25. Think of all that David had seen and been through in his years... being anointed as king of Israel as young boy. Killing Goliath. Fleeing for his life because of Saul. His adultery with Bathsheba, the nights in the Cave of Adullum, the battles and wars again the enemies of God. How amazing that David could say that the Lord has never forsaken His people.
Not only can David say this but we can too. This promise is for us as well. Though trials may come.... and there may be nights when it seems as if God is not there.... know this- He is with us. He upholds us. He has never forsaken His children. He has promised and God always keeps His promises.
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Amy Carmichael- "He hath never failed me yet. Never will His love forget. Oh fret not thyself- nor let it be afraid."
Know and believe that God has ordained our every step. Our every move and season of our lives- He knows. Trust Him- know that He is in control of even the littlest of circumstances of our lives. Believe that God will direct and orchestrate everything in our lives in His timing. Do not worry about jobs, housing, a future spouse or marriage, money or plans.... wait upon the Lord and watch Him work! Watch Him prove His promises! He will not forsake you! Instead of worrying... take the difficulty in your life and use it has a proving ground for your trust in the Lord and God's faithfulness! Trust in the Lord and watch Him work!
Don't you think that the One who made us and ordained all of our days before one of them came to be is fully capable for providing money, jobs, housing, a future spouse etc.? Why do we so often trust our own wisdom and judgment (which usually leads to anxiety and worry) rather than the Sovereign God's?
Place all our trust on Him- my friends and rest secure. God will not forsake us. He will not leave us as orphans. This life will have it's trials and dark nights but know... God is there. He is faithful. Never doubt that that.
